Equine Manual Lymph Drainage (MLD) is one of the top three fastest growing modalities for humans. We now have it available in the equine world of bodywork.
The purpose of Lymphatic Massage is to clear the congestion and allow for the free flow of ‘traffic’ through the body once again.
It is a special massage technique where you act directly on the lymphatic system. It’s a very soft way of massaging the Lymphatic pathways and nodes that horses respond to extremely well. It stimulates the Lymphatic system and increases the drainage capacity, sometimes up to 75%!
As a result, waste materials leave faster from the body.
Honors belong to Dr. Emil & Estrid Vodder who developed this technique with humans in 1930 to manage chronic sinusitis and to address other immune disorders.
In Germany a Professor Rautenfeld brought MLD to Equines approx. 30 years ago.
In 2008, Theresa Muller (From the US) traveled to Germany to learn the theory and techniques for horses from Professor Rautenfeld.
Theresa started ‘The Holistic Equine Academy of Lymphedema’ (HEAL Equine) - the first of its kind to offer Certification in Equine Manual Lymph Drainage for Equine Professionals in North America. www.healequine.com.
Equine MLD may help prevent or may facilitate the healing of other common equine disorders such as:
· Remove excess fluid (Stocking up) = Lymphedema and Cellulitis
· Summer Eczema (Scratches/Mud Fever)
· Weak Immune System
· Sinus conditions and Allergies
· Clogged tear ducts
· Navicular Syndrome
· Fibro Myalgia
· Pre-surgical or post-surgical applications
· Prevents Laminitis, Abscesses, Soft tissue Injuries, Stone Bruises etc.
· Acidification prevention (Lactic Acid) and tying up
· After any injuries and surgeries
